A trip back in time...

P4/5 went on a class trip today to Kirkwall. We firstly visited the Earl's and Bishop's Palaces in Kirkwall and were given an absolutely fantastic tour by the Glaitness P6 pupils. Look at their wonderful, traditional costumes...

We then went onto the St Magnus Cathedral for another excellent Magnus themed tour by Fran.

Thank you to all involved for a very informative and fun day!

Baking Bonanza

In class, we have been learning about weight and capacity. To test our knowledge and skills in measuring, we decided to do some baking. The children voted on chocolate buns and Smartie cookies.

We split up into two groups and followed the recipes carefully to make the mixture.

The cookies grew and grew in the oven and they tasted delicious!

We think something went a tiny bit wrong with the bun mixture, possibly over-mixing or not enough flour. They were not as spongy as we hoped but still tasted brilliant (especially with the amazing chocolate icing and sprinkles).

Brilliant Bushcraft

Whilst some of the lucky P5's were having fun in Hoy, the rest of us were learning how to make safe, outdoor fires in a Bush-craft lesson.

Ingrid, Keri and Archie took in a brilliant selection of sticks from home.

We sorted them into three size piles: matchsticks, pencils and fingers.

Using dried grass, shredded paper and cotton wool we made a nest in our colanders.
Then, with the flint sticks, we lit the fires!

We toasted marshmallows over the fire, yum!

But had to blow on them as they were roasting hot in the middle!
