Christmas cheer for the church!

Primary 4 and 5 pupils have been busy creating decorations for our Christmas tree for the church. The song we chose was Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer! We each made a little felt Rudolph which was sewn together. Some of us had never sewn before so this was a bit tricky, but also lots of fun.
We kept a small opening at the top to sneak a sweetie in.

We then hung our decorations on our tree at the church.
We are very pleased with how it looks!

Have a look and see if you can spot our tree if you are visiting the church over the holidays!

Festive Fundraising

We are entering Orkney's Dragon's Den competition this year, taking on the challenge of running a class business and making and selling a successful product. To raise money to help us fund this, we decided to make candle holders out of recycled jars. We have been decorating them in different ways, some with a Christmas design!

These will be on sale at Parents Evening (Thursday 1st December) and the Lion King performances (Wednesday 7th and Thursday 8th December). They will be sold for a donation towards our project.

Amazing Africa!

We have been learning about Africa as our topic this term. It is a continent which is made up of 54 countries. We have been learning about some of the countries and the differences between them.

Some of the children in places like Zimbabwe and The Democratic Republic of the Congo live very different lives compared to ours.
We are very lucky to live with our families in Orkney.

Brilliant Buns.

On Tuesday we made buns using the bits of pumpkin we carved out. We followed instructions on a recipe to make the pumpkin buns. We had to cut the pumpkin into small pieces and cooked it.

To make the buns we mixed butter, cinnamon, nutmeg, flour, salt, baking powder, eggs and some other ingredients together.

We made 24 buns. They were so delicious.

We have copied the recipe into the comments below if you want to try them yourself.

Fantastic Pumpkins

On Monday we carved pumpkins for Halloween. There was groups of four people. We drew our plans on paper first.

One group carved a cat with shapes around it. The next group did a clown face and the last group did a pumpkin face with spider shaped eyes that was also being sick. Yuck.

We saved the white bits from the inside to make pumpkin buns.

Exciting Enterprise!

Primary 4 and 5 pupils are going to be entering an enterprise competition this year called Orkney's Dragon's Den. We will be creating a business plan, with a product or service that we hope to sell in order to make a profit. In class, we have been sharing loads of ideas on what we could create. We have also been discussing which charities we would like to raise money for through any business profits.

Lorna, from The Social Enterprise Academy, came to visit us and tell us a little bit more about enterprise. We are all really looking forward to becoming entrepreneurs!

The Amazing Auditions

We have all been practising lines for characters in The Lion King play. Today some of us did our audition. We were nervous and had butterflies in our tummies. After we did it we felt proud and happy. The rest of us will do it tomorrow.

We used shapes to design The Lion King cover. The head was a hexagon.

This is us showing our lion faces. They are scary!!

Brilliant Basketballers

We have been learning basketball this term in class P.E.

We are enjoying learning different ways to pass the ball and move around the court with it. We can dribble it, pass it or bounce it to our teammates.

Some of us have become masters at dribbling the ball with both hands! Today, we tried shooting into the nets in a class 'shoot off'. It was exciting.

Look at our cool shadows!

We are looking forward to playing a mini tournament next week.
Unfortunately, it was not nice enough weather to take the lesson outside into the sunshine  like we did last week... we were worried the balls might fly away.

Making Super Soup

In Primary 3/4 we planted our own vegetables at school. when we came back from our summer holidays we dug up our vegetables. We decided to make soup with them.

First we washed them and peeled them. They were very muddy.

Next we chopped them all into cubes & put them in the pot with boiling water.

After about 30 mins we left it to cool. Miss Archibald liquidised it and we all had a cup outside.
 It was delicious.
We heated it up and had another cup on Friday, yum yum!

We have made a wall display outside our classroom with loads of photos of us. Please come in and see it.

Destination Space!

The last thing we did for the science festival was called Destination Space. It was fun. We got to see what astronauts do when you go into space. It was really interesting to learn about the fire boosters that blast the rocket up into space. It helped us learn more about space and what it would be like on a space mission.

Blast off!

Uh oh, getting dizzy.

A space mission would take a long time. It might be scary because of the pure darkness out in space. The astronaut needed a really thick suit so it must have been really sweaty inside it.  You could make your dirty water or wee into water that you could drink... yuck!

This is poo floating around in space!

Mrs Williams had a very funny space suit on! It was like pyjamas.
